Moisturize with Avocados and Coconut Oil

It’s winter, which for me means dry skin and a sore body from shoveling!

Typically I deal with these issues by squeezing extra yoga classes into my busy schedule and lathering my body with tons of lotion.  But this winter, my body is yearning for more; more moisture and more pain relief.

I have always been told that both avocados and coconut oil are great moisturizers, but I never knew why.  Over the weekend I did a bit of research to find out why avocados and coconut oil make for such great moisturizers.

I found two really great articles from the Huffington Post, the first titled “Coconut Oil For Skin, Hair, Body: 6 Things To Know About The Super Ingredient” and the second, “Five Things To Do With Avocados Besides Make Guacamole

According to Coconut Oil For Skin Hair, Body, “Coconut oil provides deep and real moisture. It helps strengthen underlying tissues and helps remove excessive dead cell on the skin’s surface that makes your skin rough and flaky in texture.”

As for the avocados, they “Moisturize skin. The natural oils in an avocado can penetrate deep into the skin, helping to soften and hydrate dry and flaky patches. Simply spread it across your body, leave on for 10 to 15 minutes, shower or bathe in lukewarm water and pat dry.”
